Monochromatic Boys Room

One of the first projects we did when we moved in four months ago  (how has it been four months already?!) was paint and decorate the kids’ rooms. They had been in a state of flux between selling our home (9 months) and living at my parents’ home (4 months). We wanted them to get settled as quickly as possible to help them feel stable. So while they aren’t “complete,” we made significant progress right away. There are quite a few things we still want to add/change, but here’s our progress so far!

When I asked Levi how he wanted to decorate his room, his response was orange. (And if you know him, that’s usually his response for everything. He’s obsessed!). I couldn’t stomach a bright bedroom, so we compromised with a monochromatic room and will add pops of orange. I just haven’t gotten that far yet…

Getting Ready for Date Night Featuring Lipsense

Date night is highly coveted in our house. While official dates aren’t consistent, they are an eagerly anticipated break from the chaos that is three children. So you can imagine that when this special night comes around, I want to look my best! I mean we are to the point where my husband compliments me every time I wear makeup, which isn’t a lot #momlife #sorryhunny.  I am not one for lipgloss or lipstick (I drink and eat too much which smudges or fades it). I am no makeup guru, but I recently discovered how much I could elevate my look by adding a little lip color. But what does one do when lipstick just isn’t a good fit?

Enter Lipsense by SeneGence. I was sent a sample by my friend Tori and while I was hesitant (lips aren’t my thing!), I was interested to try it out.  Lipsense’s claim to fame is that the color lasts 18 hours and won’t smudge, budge, or kiss off. Let me tell you- with no exaggeration, this stuff LASTS and the claims are true! From getting ready, to kissing the kids on our way out, to a glass of wine and through dinner, I was so impressed! The color stayed on my lips and looked great. My husband couldn’t stop complimenting me! The color was very flattering and I felt great!

Basic Master Bedroom

So in full defense of my master bedroom, it isn’t done. Phew, glad that is out of the way!
In all seriousness, we have never prioritized decorating our bedroom. Our last home’s master was quite teeny, but we shoved this behemoth bed into it anyway (the majority of the time we lived in our last home I was pregnant, so naturally we needed the extra bed space #babybody). I am so happy to finally have a bedroom that will fit our bed! The nightstands were our anniversary gift to each other for our third anniversary (maybe? I can’t keep track anymore!). And that is pretty much it! We have lots of room to grow into this room so I am excited to start decorating! Now if only I could figure out my direction…

This room has a lot of potential; huge windows and plenty of space. It just needs a bit of…freshening. The house was pretty recently repainted, but the previous owners were reeeeally into tan. Not that there is anything wrong with tan, this particular shade is more on the green side and pretty dark. When the sun is down it is straight up olive green. So, needless to say, paint is high on my priority list! If only I could settle on a color. Suggestions are welcomed!

The carpet is also original (circa 2000) and has to go. It is white and really has seen better days. The carpet was professionally cleaned prior to us purchasing the home, and the edges are permanently stained and black. Our cat also decided to christen our move by throwing up all throughout our bedroom which has us heavily leaning in the direction of replacing the floors. The combination of it all won’t be touched by my carpet cleaner. Who would choose a white carpet anyway? Oh well, it has seen better days!

Here are some ideas floating in my head/Pinterest.  I am still not sure of my vision. Sometimes it helps just to get started and be inspired from there! That may be my method with this room 😉

(Yes, I know the wall colors are all kind of crazy in each picture. They aren’t cooperative.)

If you follow me on instagram, I’ve mentioned how this “sitting room” will eventually become our closet. If you look at the current closet situation above, you’ll notice how awkward they are. Well, you probably can’t tell in a picture, but behind the row of clothes is the house’s eaves, so you have to crawl under the row of clothes to access more storage. First world problems, I know. We decided that instead of having wasted space next to our master, we would walk that in and make a nice walk in closet. Crossing our fingers we can do it this year! I’ll go into more details another time, but it is a project I am super excited about!

Toy (thanks Levi) as a reminder that I have children and taking clean house pictures is near impossible. I love them 😆
So pretty much a blank slate, which I am really excited about. And slightly overwhelmed. I can’t wait to see it come along! Any suggestions are welcome!

Outfit Obsession // Pleated Skirt

Do you ever have an item of clothing that you’ve been wanting forever, but you weren’t able to find “the one?” Well, that is the story with this pleated skirt. I feel like I have been looking for one for the longest time and finally, finallyyyy I found it. AND it happens to be part of the #nsale. Nordstrom, how I love you so. (There are some sizes still available, scroll to the bottom for direct links!) It feels like kittens are caressing my legs and angels sing when I wear it. Too much? Maybe a slight exaggeration. Only slight. ANYWAY, this skirt is perfect, so flattering and very versatile, and I am so glad I got it!

Summer Chic and Rodan & Fields

Nice weather has finally arrived! If you are in the New England area, you know what I’m talking about. We have had nothing but rain and chilly damp weather for what seems like forever. The sun has been out all week and we are all reaping the benefits.

I got this tank a few months ago and I’ve been waiting (im)patiently to wear it! It is the perfect summer look. Effortless and adorable, but still stays in place for easy wearing around children.

(Skip to the bottom for the Rodan & Fields review and to shop this look!)

I’ve been pushing myself out of the box a little with the clothing I’ve been wearing. I am normally drawn to the longer tops and lower rise jeans. I am realizing what different proportions can do for your body! This tank, cinching at the waist, makes my legs look so long and my waist look smaller. It conveniently hides problem area (hey, post-baby belly!) and is lightweight for warm summer days. Ideally I would have worn the top with higher waist jeans too.

I’ve been working with a friend for the past few months who sells Rodan & Fields. I have used the skincare products myself for almost a year and I can’t speak any higher of the company and everything I have used. Since I knew they were a great company, I agreed to test out the LashBoost. Guys. I can’t even tell you how awesome this stuff is! Being a natural blonde, my lashes were really light and not full or long. This product makes it so I literally don’t have to wear makeup. 90% of the time during the week, I am makeup free. No longer are people asking me if I am tired or sick if I am not wearing makeup. My lashes are SO long! It was so easy to use, and for such a big impact. Just a swipe across the lashed with a small brush every evening, and your lashes will skyrocket! It is a fraction of the cost of false lashes, and you don’t have to spend time getting them redone every few weeks because you are growing your OWN lashes! And they look better because they are all natural. This is the last week of using the tube, so 12 weeks altogether.

I have never had great skin. When I was having babies, I turned into a complete pizza face. It was embarrassing, uncomfortable, and I never really felt confident in myself, even with makeup on. I have been using the Unblemish skincare regimen and it is LIFE CHANGING. I don’t sell the products myself, but if I were to do a side business, this would be it. The products work. My skin is unbelievable. And it is an easy four-step system! Now is the first point in my life I actually feel comfortable with my face being bare! And having lashes that looks like I am wearing mascara is a double bonus. I wasn’t even asked to speak about anything but the LashBoost, but I have to because of how much I love it and how well it works!

I also use the Reverse regimen to help with my acne scarring and skin discoloration. My skin is so bright and clear! My scars are hardly noticeable anymore. Just in time for summer where I prefer to not wear makeup because I will just sweat it off!

My only critique of the LashBoost would be to make sure you apply it evenly. I applied to my left eye first, then to my right, and I noticed my left lashes were a bit longer than the right. So just make sure you rotate which eye you start! I am assuming because there was a little more serum on the brush when you first take it out of the tube. I have nothing negative to say about it! You won’t be disappointed.

This is with only one coat mascara. My lashes are so thick and dark! I am obsessed.

Please contact my girl Laura at http://lgafken.myrandf.com if you are interested in the LashBoost or other Rodan & Fields products. She is the sweetest thing! And she has the most adorable little baby girl.
